First stop St Anne’s Winery at Myrniong to sample the fruits of their labour. The reds are to die for and local delicacies including, chocolate, olives and honey available for nibble sampling as well. Descend into the lower reaches of the wine vault and your senses will be assailed by a world of polished copper, brass and timber.

Then it’s on to Daylesford Farmers Market to search for that elusive bargain basement priced art or craft treasure. Generally, after l’ve had my fill of weaving amongst all the stalls l tend to go and watch Oouie, the performing budgie riding the rails again (he’s an absolute hoot).

This is to be followed by lunch at the Hotel Frangos or their café Kouklas in Daylesford’s main street (cost of meal not included in bus fare).
If you don’t feel like a sit down meal at the hotel there are just heaps of boutique eateries or bakeries available for a coffee andor brunch.

A word of warning to the shopaholics, avoid the wallet carnage and stay clear of the Merch outlets otherwise your pocket will be severely punished (truly, so many beautiful, artisan, hand crafted goodies its damned hard to resist).

Close on the heels of this will be a short visit to Trentham Falls (if time allows) and then on to our final destination, the private gardens of St Erth (part of the Diggers Club) near Blackwood in the Wombat State Forest.
Treat yourself to an ambling meander through the relatively unknown and largely unheralded expansive botanical gardens of St Erth.

These have been laid out in the bowl of a broad valley and they’re surrounded by towering mountain ash gum trees which have (thus far) been spared the timber cutter’s axe or the ever present threat of bush fire.
We can enjoy afternoon smoko at the Fork to Fork Café and when sated, like all good teddy bears who are tired and sleepy, it’ll be time to head for home.

Cheers Denis
